❀I personally like to listen to whatever, but recently I have been playing reggaeton and (this is going to be weird, don’t cancel me) K-pop. The vibes in certain reggaeton songs are immaculate. I wouldn’t call myself a stan/big fan of one artist, but my top 3 have to be Bad Bunny, Maluma, and Karol G. I feel like those are very basic people to like in the reggaeton genre, but I’m okay with that since I’m just enjoying the music. (I also added in Becky G)
As for K-pop, once again, I listen to several artists and wouldn’t call myself a fan of any one group or solo artist (except for BTS). I guess the reason I like it is because I have to search up translations of the songs to know what it says as well as understanding why they chose certain instruments or rhythms to set certain moods of lyrics. Also, the music videos are amazing (some of them have long intros though). Every aspect is hit like the visuals, story, and theme. Sometimes they are weird, but otherwise than that, I think it truly is a form of art.

❀I have so many songs that I have attached meaning to. I link them with happy memories and even sad memories. For example, an artist that I love but also hate listening to is The Weeknd. I attached bad memories to him, but I still like listening to him. Another example is Childish Gambino (I LOVE HIM SO MUCH). I have so many good feelings toward Donald Glover. Something that is personally meaningful to me is Chiquilla Caprichosa by Galope de San Luis (which is a Mexican band).
How did I stumble across this song? LONG story… nah I’m just kidding, my dad is in the band. He plays bass and he was the singer for the Chiquilla Caprichosa music video. His group “blew up” I guess because they were able to perform on a Mexican morning show (which I think was equivalent to Good Morning America).

❀I
usually force myself to like things. For example, I HATED peanut butter with a
passion. No one could get me to eat peanut butter, I despised it. But, I would
tell myself I liked it to slowly trick my mind into believing it. I applied the
same technique to country music. I did not like country music, but I slowly got
introduced to artists and now I love listening to the genre. BUT, one genre of
music I will not even try to like is heavy metal/screamo music. The only thing that comes close to this genre that I will
listen to is this song that my cousins introduced to me back when I was in
elementary.
I would like to know how people keep a straight face and show no emotion when listening to it. I want to sit with someone who genuinely enjoys that kind of music to understand why they love it. Maybe it could even help me to THINK about possibly entertaining the idea of listening to it. :]
hey larissa i was reading your blog on your taste in music and i see you had bad bunny and it caught my attention becasue i also find him as a good artist. and i personally love peanut butter but i dont like the monster song.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people are turned away by music in languages they don't understand, but even though I'm not fluent in Spanish, I really enjoyed the reggaeton songs you put one here, as well as the Mexican music. I have never listened to kpop before but that "killing me" song is really good. I personally enjoy more rhythmic genres likes those over something loud and stagnant like screamo as well.
ReplyDeleteI saw you liked the Legend Of Zelda franchise. I loved playing those games as a kid, if you haven’t you should try Breath of the Wild. I don’t like country music personally but maybe I could try slowly introducing it into my music like you did.
