✿Diverse Cultures✿
Diving into different cultures and their music is really interesting for me. As we all know, music ties people together no matter how different it is when exploring different cultures. I decided to venture more into Native American Music, the charango instrument from the Andes, and the drums from Western Africa.

I enjoyed listening to the music of the Native People here in America. Something about it makes the audience feel more connected. I would hate to see close minded people completely neglect and see their music as just yelling. I enjoyed more of the modern Native American music, like Supaman. His pieces were good and I like the fact that he adds a bit of hip hop. I guess it's to appeal to the younger generations. I went on Youtube to try to find other artists like him and I stumbled upon a playlist of modern Native American Music. On this playlist, there is a group called The Halluci Nation and they have a lot of songs. Most of their songs have an EDM type of feel. It really can get heads bopping.
They also have a couple of songs that incorporate rap, like this one:
Once we were told about the different instruments in the Andes, I was in awe. I have never heard about the majority of the instruments and most of them were weird. One instrument I wanted to look more into was the charango. I can remember all my favorite animal phases (giraffes and chinchillas had a chokehold on me in elementary) and I consider armadillos my first favorite animal. When I found out that this instrument was made out of an armadillo, I didn't know how to react. At least people were using all of their resources to make instruments, right? I wanted to find out how it sounded, and of course, I decided to to try to find pop covers with the charango.
If you didn't know, I like some video game franchises. When I found this video, I SCREAMED because I love The Last of Us, which is a post apocalyptic video game. Hearing the charango play the notes relieves and itch in my brain that I didn't know I had. I usually play this theme song on my guitar, but the charango executed it perfectly.
I was never really into drums, but whenever I would see someone on my TikTok for you page cover a song, best believe I would rewatch it at least 10 times before looking at other videos. But, the drums from Western Africa are different. I love the way that they sound. I knew I wanted to look more into their drums, but I didn't know how, until I remembered one of my all time favorite movies. I'm going to be speaking for every Marvel fan on this one, but the soundtrack and instrumentals for the Black Panther movie were AMAZING. I went on Google and searched what the instruments were and where they came from. Variety, a entertainment business website, stated that "Nearly all of the unusual sounds in the “Black Panther” score were recorded in the West African nation of Senegal... Senegalese musicians... performed on the soundtrack¨ (Variety). Senegal is in Western Africa. I found this piece played by Massamba Diop and an orchestra.

I included The Halluci Nation in my blog too. I found their music very interesting. The Black Panther soundtrack is so good! After we mentioned it in class I went back and listened to some of it again. Nothing will beat hearing it in a theater for the first time though.
ReplyDeleteI loved how you included the Black Panther soundtrack because any marvel fan like me loves that soundtrack too (I hope). I also enjoyed listening to the songs you put in there.
ReplyDeleteYou used great examples overall! I especially love your example from the Andes of "The Last of Us". You a lot of examples that were nontraditional.
